In 2011, Tim Blackburn received a NHS Clinical Excellence Award by Central Manchester Foundation Trust in recognition for his contribution to the Trust’s service and quality of patient care in Facial Plastic Surgery. This related to several areas of service. For example, having performed several ‘first operations’ within the Trust including: helping to perform the first total midfacial reconstruction, performing the first stereotactic 3D navigated orbital fracture repair in 2008 and also performing the first totally endoscopic condylar fracture repair in 2009 (which spares any facial scars). Additionally, further developing the service in facial nerve injury with an expanded interdisciplinary team and his award winning research-proposal for an implantable facial nerve stimulator. A Clinical Excellence Award also takes into account work outside the Trust in national and international forums – such as his contribution to the Intercollegiate Royal College of Surgeons as a question writer for the speciality exit exam and his work as the Secretary-General of the International Academy of Oral & Facial Rehabilitation (limited to 50 invited members internationally). |
