It was a pleasure to be invited to give a Masterclass alongside my esteemed colleague Mr Jonathan Hayter, on ‘Avoiding complications in cosmetic facial surgery’ at the national conference for the British Association of Oral Maxillo- Facial Surgeons on 23 July 2015. The ‘Wake up with the Professors’ slot at the national conference required an early start but the venue in the newly developed Liverpool Echo arena conference centre was a high tech centre in a picturesque waterside location.

The process of preparing this masterclass was a great opportunity to reflect on all aspects of the patient care pathway and experience for cosmetic treatments. The basics of listening carefully to patients, setting out to clearly establish their concerns and endeavouring to treat patients as though they are in your family – were common themes shared by myself and Mr Hayter. The early morning masterclass was also a vibrant and interactive session – it is good to see that the next generation of specialist facial surgeons are so interested in ensuring good patient care with high standards of patient safety.
